The Legend of Frog (usually abbreviated as LoF) is a cancelled game that would have served as the next "chapter" of Cat Ghost.

The game would have been a rouglelike RPG with high levels of community involvement, and a story featuring elements introduced in Cat Ghost.

History[]

The Legend of Frog was revealed officially on the Cat Ghost Website after the release of the final episode, CatGhost 13 Acceptance. The website led to a document explaining what was planned for the game, how it would have functioned, the development structure, and links to the official Discord server, a download of an early game prototype, and the Cat Ghost Patreon.

While developing the story, the creators felt that the project was losing its focus and could not live up to the spirit of Cat Ghost, so they decided to move on to other projects instead.

Overview[]

LoF was to be a top-down rougelike RPG inspired by games such as The Legend of Zelda and Diablo.

The player would have been an inhabitant of the town of Risket, and could explore the world looking for the legendary "Star Stones". However, three gods named Kopu, Pazu, and Rebu each wanted the stones for themselves, and would have tried to manipulate the player into handing the stones over through various means, often in exchange for rewards.

Players would have been able to create own dungeons, weapons, monsters, and armor, which could then be submitted to the developers and possibly added to the game.

Known connections with Cat Ghost[]

The game would have continued the stories of certain characters that were not fully explored in Cat Ghost, such as the Digging Girl and Throne. The three gods in the game were each seen in Cat Ghost as faces on the Horrible Beast, Pazu being the demonic face on the red door, Rebu as the bird-like face on the blue door, and Kopu as the lion face on the green door.

What other elements of Cat Ghost would have been featured is unknown.

Cancellation[]

During the writing and development of LoF, the project became bigger than expected, and the creators started to move further and further away from Cat Ghost until they felt that it would have disappointed any fans who expected a continuation of the original story. The Legend of Frog was cancelled in favor of smaller projects that the creators felt they could work on and release more easily. Their next project would be an unrelated puzzle game by the name of Puzzle Party, which was released in June of 2020.
