Joke is the game accompanying CatGhost 2 Knock. It features the Horrible Beast door, which will open to reveal certain images when the right code is entered.

Gameplay[]

The main focus of Joke is the Horrible Beast, which was first introduced in CatGhost 2. Inside the game window, the player's mouse cursor is replaced by a white hand, which appears to have been cut off just above the wrist. Utilizing a type of encrypted communication known as "Tap Code", the player can knock a sequence of letters into the door. Upon tapping a certain code into the door, it will open onto a scene which relates in some way to the Cat Ghost series.

Instructions[]

Coding and decoding letters through Tap Code works with a Polybius square. Pressing the left mouse button will knock on the door once. The first set of knocks will designate the row, so the player can knock up to 5 times. If the door is knocked a sixth time, the screen will "glitch" and the entered letter will be deemed invalid.

About one second after the last knock, the screen will "glitch" again, and the player can enter another set of knocks to determine the column. Another second after the last knock, the sound of a bell will be heard and the letter that was entered will be displayed on the screen. If the player has made a mistake, they can "erase" all already entered letters by pressing the right mouse button.

Trivia[]

  • In the game files of Joke, a link to a website can be found. This site is used by the game to send a message to the server, telling it that the player managed to achieve one of the "endings"[11].
    • The number that is displayed on the side shows how many other people have solved it on this day[11].
    • It should be noted that the word "skinwalk" appears in the site's URL.
  • The image that leads to the game's download at the end of CatGhost 2 shows a small section of the background of the "Megalith" picture from the game.
